WHAT IS GYROTONIC® METHODOLOGY?

The GYROTONIC® method is a physical conditioning approach developed in 1980’s by Juliu Horvath. Juliu created a system of movement that embraces key principles also found in yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi, but is not derived from these other modalities. He initially called it Yoga for Dancers (now known as GYROTONIC® method. After years of teaching the class, Juliu began creating equipment designed to guide the student's movements while still incorporating the range of motion and flow that Yoga for Dancers allowed. After two decades of continued work and refinement the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is now performed on a weighted Pulley Tower that is made from wood, aluminum and handcrafted components. The Pulley Tower allows you to simultaneously stretch and strengthen connective tissues in and around the joints to open areas that are bundled up and tight. The circular, spiraling and undulating movements that characterize the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® help to increase the functional capacity of the spine. In either a seated or lying position, hands and feet are used with weighted pulleys and wheelbases to create circular movements in limitless directions, allowing clients to stimulate injured or healthy areas of the body. Each exercise is synchronized with a corresponding breathing pattern enhancing aerobic and cardiovascular stimulation.
