WHAT IS GYROKINESIS® METHODOLOGY?

In 1977 Juliu moved to St. Thomas and continued an intensive study and practice of yoga. During this study he developed a system that he called "Yoga for Dancers", which is now called GYROKINESIS®. A typical GYROKINESIS® class begins with simple exercises that engage the spine and pelvis combined with specific breathing patterns: while seated on low stools, participants mobilize the body through seven natural elements of the spine: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular that are reflected in  arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. The same movement patterns are then expanded to release the hips, knees, hamstrings and quadriceps. The corresponding breathing patterns executed during every movement stimulate the nervous system, oxygenating the blood. The class includes not only sitting but also lying and standing positions, creating a dynamic and flowing session.

The GYROKINESIS® approach systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating movement. These movements stimulate the body's internal organs. Fluidity is the key. Postures are not held for long periods of time, instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of
breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance.
